Q: "where can I find out about residential care for a friend or relative?"
A:The Regulatory Body governing the sector is the Care Quality Commission 'CQC' and their website is www.cqc.org.ukWarrington Borough Council are another source of information: www.warrington.gov.uk/home/health_and_social_care/adult_social_care
Alternatively feel free to call and ask to speak with the owners or manager at Heathfield..
Q: "how can I know what type of care is appropriate?"
A: Prior to taking occupancy, we would visit a prospective resident to discuss their care needs and ensure that these can be met within the home. If a Social Worker is involved with the care provision, an assessment of care needs may have been carried out involving the person needing care, the social worker and possibly a medical practitioner. Following this, guidance will be provided on whether residential, specialist or nursing care is required. We would ask you whether such an assessment has been completed when you call. Whether or not this is the case we still visit to complete a pre-admission assessment.
Q: "who pays for the care?"
A: Residential care is paid for either by the resident, their relatives, the Social Services or a combination of these. Funding by Social Services is means tested and should you feel that such support may be needed we recommend that you contact them to discuss the matter.
Q: "I look after someone now but need a break. How can I arrange this?"
A: We frequently have residents enjoy short stays with us, referred to as 'respite' care. This may be because those normally providing care are away on holiday or just need a break. In some instances funding to support respite stays is available from Social Services and it is recommended you contact them to discuss eligibility. Please call us should further guidance be required or to discuss room availability.
Q: "I have little or no experience in this field. How can I know that a particular home will provide the quality of care I want?"
A: Until 2010, the Regulatory Body governing the sector, the Care Quality Commission 'CQC' carried out quality assessments of homes and issued star ratings ranging from 0 (poor) to 3 (excellent) depending on their findings. Heathfield is a 3 Star Excellent rated home. The star ratings and the assessment reports are available to read on line at www.cqc.org.uk. Warrington Borough Council also carry out periodic assessments, and whilst they do not issue ratings, their assessments align closely with those of CQC. Whilst Social Workers are not allowed to make recommendations they may be prepared to comment on the reputation carried by different homes. It is recommended that visiting various homes and asking questions of both residents and staff will provide a good measure of the quality of care provided.
Q: "What is the cost?"
A: Costs vary according to the levels of care needs and room facilities. Fees ranges from £385 per week to £600 and we recommend you call to discuss requirements.
Q: "Is there 24 hour care?"
A: Yes, we maintain good levels of staffing throughout the day and night. All rooms have nurse call systems.
Q: "can I keep my own doctor?"
A: Yes you can if your doctor is agreeable to this.
Q: "Can I have visitors or go out at any time?"
A: Yes.
Q: "Can I bring my own furniture or other possessions?"
A: Whilst all rooms are fully furnished to a high standard, residents are welcome and indeed encouraged to make their rooms their own with furniture or other familiar possession.
